Everyone is getting in on the zombie theme these days it seems. Everywhere you look your starting to see zombies. The disreputable undead who previously were limited to B movies can now be found in first class video games, horror movies, and there is even a TV show in the works. Yes zombies have come a long way from their humble beginnings.
I’ve been a fan of zombie movies for about 30 years now and I can tell you, they genre has come a long way. Movies like 28 days later, and the sequel 28 weeks later were blockbuster events that changed public opinion concerning the previously b genre concept with their solid plot lines and incredible special effects actually made the concept credible to the masses while horror aficionados such as myself were happily watching such cult favorites as Return of the Living Dead, Shawn of the Dead, and Army of Darkness with complete content a decade ago.
Little is known about the upcoming TV series entitled ALIVE! However I managed to find a video promoting you can watch below:
I sincerely hope that the series ALIVE does well because currently Sci-Fi and fantasy is frowned upon by the networks due to the expense involved in making them and the lack of interest in some avenues. TV shows such as Kings and Firefly were some of the best television I have ever watched and yet flopped on network television. Firefly remains a cult classic to this day and forums all over the net lament the early cancelation of the series.
Hollywood has a lot to learn about the upcoming money market though. This generation is all about education in science, medicine, and future technology that will solve the current problems the world faces and many of this generation abhor the reality television that teens and your average people consume with abandon. Those people are not where the money is my friends, the money market will be those people who are into science and technology and where do you think those people found their inspiration to go into the high technology fields they so love? Science fiction is one avenue, I know it was mine.
Zombies are good fun though. I can’t say they are good clean fun because well…they are disgusting and filthy and if one bites you you’re a goner. Support the TV show ALIVE if it comes to television if you enjoy the zombie genre. ALIVE will be the first foray into uncharted territory for the network television entertainment industry.
