Jimmy Carter’s Accusations of Racism

Recently former president Jimmy Carter alluded that the reasoning behind Joe Wilson’s behavior toward President Obama during his last nationwide televised speech concerning the healthcare program was directed by racism. Respectfully Mr. Carter I have to disagree with you.

Racism as a way of life is gone from the country of America at the virulent levels needed to support your statements. The United States of America has moved past that childish part of our history and is the most culturally diverse nation on the planet at the moment. We still have some lone wolfs out in the wide who are spreading racially motivated hatred, but these are random and uncommon occurrences under the worst of circumstance.

No one really knows what Joe Wilson’s reasoning was when he jumped up suddenly and exclaimed to Obama “ YOU LIE “ but I am almost certain it was not racially motivated. There is a great amount of political pressure on the Republican party to resist what is seen as socialized medicine by the average American and that pressure, along with a desire to ‘look good’ for his constituents are the most probable reasons behind his outburst as well as the opportunity to bring nationwide exposure towards himself and quite possibly set himself up for a run at the presidency in 2012.

Mr. Carter, charges of racism are taken very seriously by the government of this country as well as the people of this country whom both find the behavior unacceptable in any shape or form. By making these accusations without proof you have diminished yourself in my eyes and quite probably many other’s eyes who admired the diplomatic work you have accomplished throughout the past few decades. You sir, by bringing up charges of racism where none exist have lowered yourself to a place where no politician ever wants to find himself. You sir have lost my respect.

Joe Wilson is many things, but I don’t sincerely believe he has a single racist bone in his body and your actions look to be a cheap shot at the Republican Party in order to further tarnish their reputation at a time when they are already in shambles.

I want to make it clear to my readers that I am neither Democrat nor Republican. I do not either as a party currently have the best interest at heart for most of America. As individuals many of both parties are decent people, but as a government mired in the rat race of Washington where they face constant pressure and temptation from special interest at every angle there seems to be a consistent failure to legislate with the average citizen in mind.

Jimmy, the best thing you could do is apologize to Joe Wilson and America as a whole for insinuating such distasteful charges so you and the rest of the nation can leave this unfortunate accusation behind. Doing so will cause Americans in general to forgive and forget your statements, not doing so will greatly diminish your capacity to act as a diplomat for this great nation of ours.

Thank you for reading my article. I realize your time is valuable and I work every day to ensure my writing is a great use of the time you spend with me.

Update: President Obama stood up in defense of Joe Wilson saying he does not believe the charges of racism Jimmy carter accused him of. Obama feels that Joe’s behavior was politically motivated and feels that disagreement in politics is a necessary as well as inevitable occurance. We here at Augmented Living are toasting Obama right now after learning this wonderful news.
